They don't want the outsiders knowing.
I'm not saying which counties because it's a fairly common practice in Appalachia.
My county changed zoning to accommodate needs . However, every town has it's colder less seen problems.
This disaster will lead to so many future issues.
I'm blessed to be alive and housed.
      Dare not say too much.
Prayers for all far worse off.
Wish I'd a million dollars, I'd love to give.

I drove the 25E way from Newport to Asheville. 71 minutes of no cell phone signal. No bark on the trees. Thanks to God that the river crossings survived to keep 25E/70 open. 10 miles long traffic backup coming into Hot Springs Sunday afternoon. I actually had to do this same detour the last time I-40 washed away in August 2004 from Francis. I was 100 miles from the washout location when it happened in '04. I was enroute to Jupiter FL to replace the roof that Francis destroyed on my house. I tried the Atlanta detour in October and decided to give 25E a shot this week. Atlanta was choked up badly. 2 hrs of stop and go.

We live in a tick tock society that wants things done 2 seconds ago but it takes more than six weeks to build a town up from scratch.
A lot of these towns lost the complete infrastructure including sewerage power and pipelines.

They said ALL of the homeless, which was a large population are completely gone. The volunteer woman supplied food for a funeral for a family in which 10 members of one family died! The reported number CANNOT be right. The counties, state and other organizations have all given up on finding missing people or recovery of dead bodies. So now the local people are using cadaver dogs and are still finding dead bodies, they found 8 bodies recently and body parts. I believe that there are many more hundreds or thousand that are not being reported that have died. They are still JUST FINDING people stranded in their houses yesterday in the mountains that desperately needed supplies. There still are people out there that have not been found yet , that are alive! An elderly couple that was staying in a tent with no where to go , were found dead of hypothermia, by people that checked the tent. This all is so wrong. These people have been abandoned by the Governor, FEMA and other government help and the RED CROSS. They have all pulled out as told by the North Carolinians. Their job is to provide relief for the people after a disaster, like this flood, and provide safe shelter and food , water and supplies to live.

Just recently drove river road to the first turn right before you go uphill to make a left to Marshall.
The railroad tracks with the train still there was haunting. Live south of Marshall. It's hard not to cry looking at all the debris and people's belongings in the debris.

really enjoyed the insights in this video, great job covering the situation! however, i can’t help but wonder if the local authorities could’ve managed the recovery efforts more efficiently. it seems like there's a lack of clear communication with the community about what’s next, and that might be contributing to the slow progress. what do you all think?

It’s going to stay that way for a while, a long while. We need to sell treasury bonds to raise the capital for recovery and rebuilding and no one in the world wants to hold the AA debt of a politically unstable nation that is sliding into fascism.

Hundreds of years of history and work to build this area have been wiped, and now people are forced to start from scratch. It will take years for just the infrastructure to be back to permanent stability. It will take decades for families to repair what they lost.

There's probably a thousand plus missing people in NC and Tennessee. Maybe the other three states too. It's awful how the news only talks about their state if it's NC or Tennessee. There's at least 500 missing in Tennessee ( 700?)
